GENERAL CHEMISTRY • REACTION MATH

Turn a balanced equation into real quantities.

Start with grams, molecules, atoms, or liters of an ideal gas. MoleMap follows the reaction recipe, one mole at a time.

Key idea
Coefficients are a recipe ratio — not every substance has to be 2 mol.

01 / BALANCE THE RECIPE

Your chemical equation

Use + between substances and →, ->, or = between sides. Parentheses work: Fe2(SO4)3.

Balanced reaction ATOM CHECKED
2H₂ + O₂ → 2H₂O

02 / CONVERT THROUGH MOLES

03 / SEE THE WHOLE BATCH

Reaction recipe explorer

One “reaction packet” uses each coefficient’s number of moles. Slide the scale to see every reactant and product change together.

WHY THE MATH WORKS

Think of moles as recipe scoops

2H₂
+
1O₂
→
2H₂O

The water recipe needs 2 scoops of H₂ for every 1 scoop of O₂, and makes 2 scoops of H₂O. A scoop is a mole: 6.022 × 10²³ tiny particles.

ELI14 WALKTHROUGH

The three-step bridge

  1. 1
Get to molesMass ÷ molar mass, particles ÷ Avogadro’s number, or gas liters ÷ molar volume.
  2. 2
Cross the equationUse coefficients like a conversion factor: target coefficient ÷ known coefficient.
  3. 3
Convert outTurn target moles into the unit you actually care about.
